Dunedin

Made a detour to Kaka Point and Nugget Point before setting off for the short drive to Dunedin. En route to the City we stopped at Tunnel Beach, a staggeringly beautiful minature version of the Twelve Apostles in Australia. As we approached Dunedin some of the beaches were simply stunning. Absoloutely beautiful and deserted. We reached the city – the country’s fourth largest - just after lunch and spent the afternoon looking around some of its amazing architecture. Is Dunedin Station New Zealand’s finest building? Its certainly up there with the best of them. By combining the historic trail with detours off the beaten track we were able to explore both traditional and highly coloured and more modern architecture. In the evening we enjoyed a local blues band at one of the bars on the Octagon, the hub of the city whose Scottish influence can be seen everywhere.
